Ighiwiyisi Jacobs

Artist Ighiwiyisi Jacobs

Ighiwiyisi Jacobs (b. 1983, Lagos, Nigeria) is a multidisciplinary creative whose practice spans design, spatial storytelling, and curatorial direction. Her work explores the intersections of culture, aesthetics, and environment—constructing layered narratives that reflect on how history, heritage, and contemporary experience shape collective identity and personal expression.

Rooted in both legal and artistic training, Jacobs’ creative journey reflects a balance between structure and intuition. A graduate of the Faculty of Law at the University of Lagos and an alumna of Queens’ College, Lagos, she is the daughter of the late Erhabor Emokpae, one of Nigeria’s pioneering modern artists. Her early exposure to art and design, combined with a disciplined legal education, informs her thoughtful approach to spatial and visual composition.

Through her companies—I. Jacobs Bella Casa (est. 2006), Hermosa Boda (2014), and The Hermosa Design Company (2017)—Jacobs has continuously expanded the boundaries of creative direction in Nigeria. Her most recent venture, Hermosa Galleria (popularly known as Gallery at the Landmark), is dedicated to curating and exhibiting artworks that celebrate Nigeria’s evolving visual culture.

Across her multidisciplinary practice, Jacobs’ work is driven by an enduring curiosity about space, form, and meaning. Whether through interior design, visual merchandising, or art curation, she creates experiences that engage emotion, memory, and imagination—inviting audiences to see beauty as both a cultural inheritance and a living dialogue. Jacobs currently lives and works in Lagos, Nigeria, where she also serves as Creative Director at Ilera Health, bridging creativity and innovation across industries.
