Jonathan Silverman

Jonathan Silverman
JONATHAN SILVERMAN (1981 -) Jonathan Silverman is a visual artist who works primarily in painting, digital painting and video. “The theme which ties the imagery in my current work together is of fragmented landscapes, lived through or collected. In my practice, I distil images of our natural environment into fragmented landscapes, exploring the space between the physical and virtual. From my personal encounter with the natural world as a potentially alienating space, I am interested in the question of whether our digital lives are divorcing us ever further from the environment and in what ways this detachment is at once natural and dehumanizing.”  Silverman (born in Manchester, UK) grew up in Israel and then spent time in Italy, graduating with a BFA from the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence (2006). Moving to London, Silverman was awarded the Elizabeth Greenshields Grant in 2009 and in 2010 and graduated with a Post-Graduate Diploma in Drawing from the Royal Drawing School (2011). He has participated in numerous group exhibitions locally and abroad. His most recent will be Salto in Altro, Palazzo Monti, Brescia, Italy in 2021. His last solo exhibition was Steep Bend, Light Step, 99 Loop Gallery, Cape Town (2021). Silverman has been awarded two residencies in India and Italy and has taught and lectured in art. He currently lives and works between South Africa and the UK. Artworks of his are included in various collections around the globe.
