Lungiswa Joe Ceramics

South African artist Chantell Lungiswa Joe, born and raised in the Eastern Cape, embodies artistic versatility. Her creative journey spans art, design, fashion, and cultural heritage, all woven together by a fervent commitment to celebrating African aesthetics and traditions. Currently based in Cape Town, Lungiswa's artistic voice is deeply rooted in her background.

Joe's entrepreneurial spirit shines through her ventures, Lungijoe Ceramics and Inxwala Slow Market. Lungijoe Ceramics allows her to explore clay as a medium, capturing her heritage and artistic vision in each piece. Inxwala Slow Market, on the other hand, extends beyond commerce. Under Joe's leadership, it serves as a haven for creative connection and healing. Here, traditional African methods of creation and making are nurtured and showcased, fostering a sense of community and cultural preservation.

Lungiswa's formal education in Clothing Management from Cape Peninsula University of Technology provided a strong foundation. However, her artistic expression transcends academic boundaries. She seamlessly blends her passions into projects like the Try Anglez clothing line and her involvement with the Black Filmmakers Film Festival. This interdisciplinary approach has earned her recognition, notably her selection as a 2015 Design Indaba Emerging Creative under the South African Department of Arts and Culture.

Travel has also played a significant role in shaping Lungiswa's artistic journey. Her explorations, both local and international, have enriched her perspective. These experiences fuel her dedication to exploring the beautiful intersections of art, culture, and craftsmanship.  Lungiswa Joe serves as a constant source of inspiration, not only through her captivating works but also through her unwavering commitment to celebrating diversity and fostering community through art and innovative initiatives.
