Naomi Loabile

Naomi Loabile

Naomi Lilian Loabile (b. 1993, Botswana) is an interdisciplinary designer whose work explores the intricate relationship between space, function, and human experience. With a Bachelor's degree in Interior Architecture from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (2015) and a Master's in Design from Listaháskóli Íslands in Iceland, Loabile's practice transcends traditional design boundaries.

Her creative process is characterized by a hands-on approach, where she meticulously crafts and shapes materials, allowing the project to evolve through each stage. Loabile's work encompasses a wide range of disciplines, including speculative design, furniture and product design, material research, cultural and heritage studies, storytelling and writing, textiles, and printmaking. She skillfully merges these diverse fields to create cohesive and thought-provoking works.

Loabile is particularly interested in how interior environments influence an individual's state of being, and this fascination drives her exploration of spatial use and function. Her work is deeply rooted in her cultural heritage and identity, which she weaves into her designs through storytelling and material choices.

Her exhibitions include "Flæði" in Reykjavik (2020), live readings from her fictional writings at the Reykjavik Museum, and participation in Design March 2021 in Reykjavik, Iceland. She is also actively involved in the art community, currently serving as the vice-secretary on the ARC Executive board.
