Nomusa Musa Mtshali
Mtshali is a full-time, contemporary artist based in Cape Town South Africa. Musa is a mixed media artist with skills varying from painter, sculptor, Installations, and performance. In May 2021 Nomusa attended the Tankwa Artscape artist residency and in April 2021 Nomusa Musa Mtshali exhibited their Photographic collection of Titanium (their alter ego) with a New York based gallery Proto Gomez. In November 2020 they were selected as one of the long-term artists at Greatmore artists’ studios. They obtained Fine Art B-tech at Durban University of Technology. In November 2018 till October 2019 'Musa' joined Amasosha Art Movement, with Amasosha they were Appointed by Red Bull Amaphiko Art Academy in May 2019 to partake in Amaphiko Durban. Earlier in 2019 Musa and Amasosha were commissioned by Prof Zanele Muholi to interpret Muholi's Somnyama Ngonyama photography portfolio. The interpretations were exhibited at KZNSA (KwaZulu Natal Society of Art) the exhibition titled IKhono laseNatal. Musa curated a pop-up exhibition titled 'Ukuba' by Thalente Khomo and Thembi Mthembu professional, conceptual photographers and visual artist. Musa has worked professionally in the Art industry since 2008. They worked as a gallery assistant for several prestigious galleries, including SMAC gallery, Cape Town and KZNSA, in Durban. They curated group shows at the BAT Centre in Durban. They were selected as one of the 18 artists to participate in the Thupelo workshop 2017, 14 artists for the Puncture Points workshop, and 14 artists at OPENLab residency 2016. They also exhibit at the FNB Joburg Art Fair 2016 in the Development of Trade and Industry (DTI) stand. In 2016, she worked at ART AFRICA magazine, as an administrator/ coordinator and client liaison.
