Omolola Coker (b. 1992) is a Lagos-based figurative and batik artist working with dye, oil, and acrylic. Her practice draws from personal experiences, forming an intimate dialogue between the physical and the spiritual through themes of home, rest, heritage, and relationships.
Through vibrant explorations of identity, Coker reflects on the return to one’s essence, examining how identity is shaped and balanced in the context of global exposure and cultural inheritance. By incorporating adiré—a traditional Yoruba wax-resist dyeing technique—she embeds her work with historical motifs of hope and resilience. These patterned surfaces create dreamlike, abstract foundations upon which she builds layers of warmth and realism using acrylic and oil paint.
Coker has been shortlisted for the Myma Art Prize 2026 and held her debut solo exhibition, In Bloom (2025), at Alliance Française Lagos. Her work has also been featured in several group exhibitions, including The Best of Ife (2025), Adegbola Projects: End of Year Party (2024), Home: Origins of All Poems (2024), Moments in Monochrome (2023), and Garden Tales (2022) in London.
