Osaru Obaseki

Osaru Obaseki (b. 1993) is a Nigerian mixed media artist renowned for blending ancient and modern techniques. A graduate in Management Sciences from the University of Port Harcourt and began her professional art career in 2017 at Nosona Studios under the Edo Global Art Foundation. Obaseki's practice includes fluid painting, sand-infused acrylics, and bronze sculptures using the ancient Benin "lost wax technique", effectively merging the ancient and contemporary within her art.
Obaseki's art has garnered international attention, with features in media outlets such as the New York Times, BBC, and DW documentaries. She has exhibited her work with Rele Gallery, Saboart Advisory, Amar Singh Gallery, Cambridge University, and Nosona Studios. Additionally, she has participated in the Back to Base workshop with Goethe Institute and Rele Gallery, as well as the International Training Programme with the British Museum.
Her collection, "Memories Unlived," delves into themes of time, culture, identity, and imagination through paintings, bronze sculptures, and installations. Drawing inspiration from ancient Benin art, architectural design, and motifs, the work serves as a medium to preserve the cultural identity of Benin, particularly highlighting the endangered Benin red earth wall.
