Razia Myers

Razia Myers
Razia Myers was born in Johannesburg and lives in Cape Town. She studied under the tutelage of Paul Birchall who is an Art Teacher at Ruth Prowse School of Art and later on with Jill Trappler. She was awarded a Masterclass and Arts Residency Scholarship at the Jerusalem School of Arts in Italy. An intensive studio program for the highly motivated and gifted student under the tutelage of Israel Hershberg. She has recently included Sculpture and Photography into her Art Practice. Myers has participated in numerous group shows nationally. Of her expressive work, deeply spiritual but playful, she attests much of her inspiration to elements found in nature but also the composition and forms found in design and aesthetics. She finds that they are inextricably linked. Myers' colourful and vibrant works are done mostly on large scale as she feels she is able to better express factors such as balance, color, movement, pattern, scale, shape and visual weight. Myers' current body of work concentrates on metamorphosis and human agility . She explores the anchors we seek, the evolution, adaptation and change for survival that is taking place in the midst of a pandemic. Through her painting she presents this time as one of opportunity, to morph into a metaphorical chrysalis state, reassessing, adopting agility and changing approach.
