Sphatho Mzantsi (b. 1995) is a 26-year-old fine artist born and bred in the Eastern Cape. He got his formal art training from the University of the Free State were finished in 2020. In 2017 he was hand picked by the founder of the Free State Art Collective (FSAC) Karen Brusch to be part of the collective. Since he has been exhibiting at different exhibitions with the collective in Bloemfontein & Johannesburg, with two major group exhibitions at Gallery 2, 2019 and 2021. The artists work is an exploration of landscape, culture and the body. The artist, a person born and educated between the culture of the xhosa tribe and the culture of western society, he explores what it means to be this individual, questioning the ideals and standards of both culture and putting them along/next to each other to observe what comes out from both cultures in the individual.
