Stella Olivier
Stella Olivier, born on 19 August 1979, is a multi disciplinary South African artist. Olivier matriculated from Potchefstroom Gimnasium Highschool in 1997 with a distinction in art, for painting. She has been working as a scenic artist from 1998 to 2009, from where she moved into a specialized field of sculpture painting and trompe-l’œil finishes on bronzes, in collaboration with William Kentridge to date. Better known for her photography, which she embarked on since 2012, Olivier has embraced a practice in the studio, focusing on ink and charcoal drawings, with more recent work exploring painting in oils. Stella lives in Rosendal, with her husband, artist and sculptor Louis Olivier. Together, they co own Workhorse Bronze Foundry in Johannesburg. Olivier also forms part of the collective of artists in Rosendal, who acts as directors for ark.contemporary gallery.
