Timi Kakandar

Timi Kakandar

Timi Kakandar (b. 1979) is a leading Nigerian contemporary artist, celebrated for his imaginative and bold use of colour. A consummate painter and mixed-media artist, he is renowned for his striking, often large-scale abstract figurative paintings that have established him as a significant figure in the West African art sector.

Kakandar’s signature style is characterized by a deep fascination with the human form and spirit. His rich, expressive colour palette, reminiscent of both Fauvism and the vibrant spirit of Africa, captures the full range of human emotion with quiet intimacy and depth. He is unafraid to experiment with form and depiction, solidifying his reputation as a "visual adventurer."

Through his evocative portraits, the artist explores themes of cultural identity, hope, and resilience. His recent body of work, in particular, is a powerful celebration of women and their essence.

One of Nigeria's most prolific artists, Kakandar has garnered a substantial international following. With four solo exhibitions and over thirty group shows to his name, his work has been exhibited extensively and is held in prominent private and museum collections worldwide.
