ReCurate
Renée Eisen-Khonat, who runs Recurate, is an independent curator based in Gaborone, Botswana, who mainly focuses on promoting female and feminist artists of the country, as well as its up-and-coming young contemporaries. As an artist herself, Eisen-Khonat’s affinity with and for the artist allows her to understand and support the creative process, and, thereby, the unique curatorial needs of each artist she works with.
Early in her career as an artist and curator, she fast made the observation that the female artistic voice in Botswana is seldomly heard above that of the male artist. It has since become a driving aim of her artistic and curatorial practice to amplify that voice unapologetically.
Additionally, in the over 20 years of working as a gallerist, trainer-facilitator, and art teacher, she has garnered a multifaceted understanding of the zeitgeist of Botswana’s art scene, which has developed a deep passion in her for building not only the repertoire and careers of her fellow artists and clients, but the art market as a whole of her country.
