Art Residency Centre

The Art Residency Centre (ARC) is an artist-led initiative that offers space to creatives in the community, actively engaged in developing new platforms for the dissemination of their work. Located at the Gaborone Sports & Social Club, in the Village, Gaborone; the ARChive is a dedicated studio space for the current ARC resident, as well as a reference library. It is open to the public every Saturday from 12 noon to 2pm.

During this time, ARC volunteers often provide feedback, mentorship and relevant support in discussion with the current artist-in-residence, as well as water the plants. The ARC Cine Club screens local and international films regularly, whilst the ARC Reading Group also meets on occasion to host zine workshops and more! In addition, we also curate, facilitate and host events, exhibitions, workshops, talks, fundraisers and competitions for our residents and the wider community, across a variety of venues, with notable friends and collaborators such as: Gaborone Club, Sanitas @linnaeus, Alliance Francaise, The Perfect Noise, Thapong Visual Arts Centre, Banana Club and Bullsheep Creative Studios. We offer local and international networking opportunities, as well as diverse platforms for creatives to develop, dialogue and display their work.

The residency programme offers the selected artist support in the form of time, space and mentorship including other relevant resources. For a minimum period of one month (30 days), and up to a maximum of three months (90 days), ARC actively and collectively endeavors to contribute to the development of the selected artist’s creative practice.
