Mbali Shabane

Mbali, Mbalenhle Shabane, is a 34-year-old multifaceted South African artist and emerging curator Based in Durban. Her work is the observation and the aim to reflect the female; journey, transmutation, experience and the relationship it has with itself. Touching on concepts of spirituality, identity, physical, psychological and emotional trauma, displacement and healing.

Mbali completed her N.D in Fine Arts at the Durban University of Technology in 2012, majoring in sculpture and printmaking. After featuring in the 2013 Sasol New Signatures, she primarily participated in group exhibitions and in 2017 ventured to the administrative and curatorial side of the arts thereafter launched her first independent curatorial project in 2019, Change Room, which is a collaborative visual arts conversation through an interactive discourse aimed at bringing womxn together through an engagement of shared experiences.

Most recently her work is part of the Durban: A Curatorial Journey (2024) exhibition at The Pencil Club, Durban.
