Sibusiso Gcaba
Sibusiso Gcaba is a Johannesburg based photographer born in 1989. He studied the Photography Foundation Course at the Market Photo Workshop in 2016 and completed an Advertising Qualification with Umuzi in 2017 specialising in Multimedia. In 2020, he completed an Introduction To Film And TV Production Course with Skyrink Studios. Recently, he studied an Advanced Photography Course with Through The Lense.
Sibusiso has exhibited locally and internationally, notably in group exhibitions at Through The Lens in 2018, 2020 and 2022, The Yaounde Photo Festival in Cameroon 2019, Summer Salon group exhibition at the Bag Factory in 2019. In 2021 he showcased at the FNB Art Joburg Fair. He was a finalist at the Lagos Photo X National Geographics Portfolio Review Award in 2018.
Sibusiso is the recipient of the 2022 Tierney Fellowship Award from Market Photo Workshop, and he was also selected to participate in the 2023 New York Times Portfolio Review. He recently completed an art residency with uMhlabathi Collective in Durban . This year he made his European debut by showing work at the Unfamiliar Similarities group exhibition at Backdoor Gallery in Gothenburg and Der Greif's Past and Present interactive group exhibition at Pinakothek Der Mordene in Munich respectively.
