Tewasart Gallery
Tewasart and Patrons (Tewasart Gallery) is a dynamic platform dedicated to supporting and promoting emerging contemporary East African artists to a wider audience. Founded in 2019 by Kenyan independent curator Thaddeus Wamukoya, Tewasart was born from a simple yet powerful goal: to create an alternative space for talented young artists who were struggling to access opportunities in existing art galleries.
With limited exhibition spaces in Nairobi, many artists turned to social media to reach audiences — an avenue that Tewasart embraced to build a vibrant community. Over time, the platform has actively organized pop-up exhibitions and strategically collaborated with international art fairs, galleries, and independent curatorial initiatives to expand visibility for its artists.
Beyond exhibitions, Tewasart runs Tewasart Africa, an online publication that seeks to cultivate networks across the continent and the global art stage. The platform shares personal art stories, offers insight into the creative process, and fosters greater appreciation and understanding of contemporary African art.
The long-term vision is to establish a permanent art space that will host both solo and group exhibitions, as well as meaningful art talks that contribute to the growth of the art scene. The space will also feature programs designed to inspire young curators, artists, and collectors, while shaping an inclusive, authentic narrative of the East African contemporary art ecosystem — providing lasting opportunities for artists of African descent to showcase their work and engage with diverse audiences.
