the gallery

the gallery is a contemporary art platform, dedicated to fostering dialogue, experimentation, and exchange within South Africa’s dynamic art landscape. Established in 2020 by Didier Presse and Fiona Pole, the gallery has quickly positioned itself as a collaborative space that supports both emerging and established South African artists.

Located at 44 Stanley Avenue in Braamfontein Werf, Johannesburg, the gallery operates through a diverse programme that includes curated exhibitions, walkabouts, workshops, publications, and residencies. Its focus is on creating opportunities for engagement across disciplines, encouraging artists and audiences alike to participate in meaningful conversations around contemporary practice.

Distinct in its approach, the gallery presents exclusively group exhibitions, intentionally avoiding solo presentations in order to foreground dialogue between artists and highlight multiple perspectives within a shared context. This model allows for a richer exploration of themes and fosters a sense of community within the space.

Through its commitment to collaboration and innovation, the gallery continues to contribute to the evolving discourse of contemporary art in South Africa.
