Nazeerah Jacub

Visual Artist, Jacub Nazeerah (1993.) born in the heart of Johannesburg spent her early life in a predominantly Muslim community, wherein the pursuit of art was inaccessible and discouraged. Jacub. N, began oil painting from the tender age of fourteen following her passion for painting and graduated with a Visual Art Honours degree from the University of Johannesburg in 2016. Jacub. N, won a merit award from Thami Mnyele and as well as the Sasol New Signatures competition.

She has featured in the Emerging Painters show at Turbine Art Fair and was selected top 100 artists to exhibit at the Β‘Other Art Fair, Australia. Her artworks are featured on Saatchi Art and she has also exhibited at Pretoria Art Museum along with numerous group-shows in galleries in and around Gauteng, such as Art it is, UJ Gallery, Art Lovers to name a few with a group exhibition at the RMB Think Precinct with the Β‘Talent unlockedΒ’ residency in 2024.

Nazeerah is an independent artist, wife and mother of two young girls and runs her studio from Johannesburg. Nazeerah has graduated from International Sculpture-Painting school and is currently working on her new body of work for her upcoming solo show Β‘(Un)Natural BloomΒ’ in her awarded studio at the Bag Factory in Newtown through the Young Womxn Studio Bursary 2025.

Drawing on the preservation of stories passed through generations,Β’(Un)Natural BloomΒ’ follows her body of work Β‘(Un)BelongingΒ’ addressing the notion of transcending boundaries across cultural landscapes. Β‘(Un)Natural BloomΒ’ is an invitation to see how life, experience and memory persist in natural forms that were once fragile and enduring, echoing the tensions of growth in disrupted landscapes and of the resilience of the female blooming under constraint.
