My art explores Deaf history and expresses my reflections on Deaf culture its past, present, and future. In the past, Deaf people were often depicted in dark, monochromatic tones similar to the old black-and-white television screens. These lacked vibrancy and conversation, symbolizing how Deaf individuals were often overlooked and limited in opportunities.
The Deaf community celebrates an important victory: the recognition of South African Sign Language as the 12th official language. This milestone honors Deaf culture and strengthens the power of communication, inspiring a brighter and more inclusive future for Deaf children. The future now holds more color, energy, and possibility.
