The Space Botswana | Ngwaga Ya Rona

The Space BotswanaPresents Ngwaga Ya Rona

Ngwana Ya Rona - (Our Culture) is a celebration of identity, memory, and material rooted in tradition and transformed through contemporary practice. This concept brings together the works of Boitshepo Maraameles, Odigile Setshwantsho, and Ompatile Sebuelo.

Three Botswana based artists whose mediums speak to the depth of cultural heritage and artistic innovation.

Boitshepo Maraameles' oil paintings are a quiet yet powerful exploration of personal and collective memory. Her rich, textured brushwork conveys emotion and dignity, capturing intimate moments that reflect everyday Tswana life. Through figurative compositions, pointillism and storytelling she invites viewers to witness the subtle beauty of indeginious symbols , activities , wildlife and belonging.

Odigile Setshwantsho reimagines graffiti through a mixed media lens, blending urban street art with traditional motifs. His works are layered with commentary on Bayeyi (Yeyi )culture. Bold colors and dynamic textures merge with challenging the boundaries between the contemporary and the ancestral.

Ompatile Sebuelo works with Mmankgodi clay, a material deeply tied to Botswana’s land and customs. His ceramics are not only functional but sculptural embodiments of heritage. Each piece is molded with a reverence for indigenous craftsmanship, echoing the voices of generations who shaped clay into vessels of memory and utility.

Together, these artists manifest Ngwao Ya Rona as a living, evolving expression—where the past informs the present, and tradition is not static but a foundation for experimentation. At Latitudes Art Fair, this exhibition becomes a dialogue across mediums, affirming the richness and resilience of Botswana’s creative legacy.

This show runs from 22nd - 25th May 2025.
