Part of the Wild Within Collection
This collection of work is an ongoing homage to Nature, specifically inspired by the wilderness of the mountains that surround the artist's home town of Stellenbosch.
Each piece is an attempt to convey the feelings that Nature awakens within her - a world that exists outside the confines of her daily routine - and, through her rendition, to offer the same to others. In the words of Mary Oliver, "like a warm fire for those who are cold; energy for those who are tired; a light for those who feel lost; sustenance for the hungry".
This particular painting captures a meandering part of the river, where the water has slowed, and river rocks have gathered. It is a meditative space where, like Mary Oliver's poem, "River", the artist reflects on the river of her own life, wondering about the twists and turns, how she has been carried away, somewhere among strangers to live a very different life to the one she imagined as a child.
