I explore notions of "home" and "belonging" through my painting practice. This exploration is centred around my own experience of space, as I find myself living in different parts of the world, away from the country where I was born and raised. With Bated Breath is informed by one of the many centuries-old, ceramic tile designs (known as "azulejos") found in the city of Seville, Spain, where I am currently based.
In this specific painting, through dripping paint, saturated colours, and washed away imagery, I aim to create a sense of the non-static, of movement, and of something organic... Although With Bated Breath references a specific tile design from Seville, the image seems to transform or grow into burglar bars in front of a window.
