DIE VOORLOPER

Historically, this term referred to a young boy who would guide a team of oxen during the Great Trek, symbolising leadership and guidance. The concept of "Die Voorloper" (The hypeman) also extends to the lead position in the Cape Minstrel Carnival, where the character dances and performs in a playful manner to enliven the carnival procession and captivate the audience.
