Matt Slater
Matt Slater (b. 1994, East London, Eastern Cape) is a photographer currently based in Cape Town, South Africa. He trained at the Cape Town School of Photography and works deeply with traditional darkroom and analog processes—film, photograms, bleaching, dyes—and experiments with “imperfections” (scratches, corrosion, chemical effects) to merge image and process.
Slater’s art often explores themes of impermanence, transience, mortality, and nature. His key projects include The Arboretum (2017) and Efflorescent Cherry (2018), the latter published via Quiet Sun Books. His work has appeared in outlets like Od Review, Musée Magazine, and GUP Magazine.
