Galerie Grolman - Yasmine Amal Presents Garden of A Soul
Garden of a Soul is a body of abstract paintings that traces the relationship between inner and outer transformation. The work questions human centrality, opening a metaphysical space where Yasmine Amal reflects on the relationship between ego and soul, earth and human life. Sufi thought and Qurʾanic references serve as conceptual anchors, guiding the work without fixing its meaning.
Painting is approached as a method for holding complexity, allowing colour and texture to mediate between meaning. She paints intuitively as she draws on her Amazigh heritage to build up elemental, colour-saturated worlds. Rather than positioning herself as an author, the self-taught artist understands her practice as an act of transmission, allowing nature and the divine realm to translate the work while she gives it form. The ocean, as both a space for life and an entity of its own, recurs as a guiding metaphor. Amal’s visual language dissolves, merges, redefines borders: between the individual and the collective, nature and human, calculation and imagination. Rooted in indigenous futurism, her practice refuses universalist, linear futures and singular truths, allowing meaning to remain relational and in flux.
The work also challenges westernized individualism and inherited notions of femininity, including the surrealist construction of the femme-enfant as a form of passive projection. Amal reclaims childlike womanhood as a source of knowledge, intuition, and transformation. Softness emerges as a form of intelligence, vulnerability as a mode of access. Yasmine Amal is a self-taught artist born to Moroccan parents in Germany and based between Berlin and Casablanca. Before pursuing a career in art in 2023, she worked in international relations with a focus on social cohesion. She is committed to fostering dialogue and social transformation through her artistic and professional practice. In 2024, she participated in the Marayeh Art Residency, a joint initiative by LABA Berlin, Künstlerhaus Bethanien, and the Deutsche Islam Akademie. In 2025 she participated in group exhibitions in Casablanca at Artorium and Mordan Art Gallery, and became a finalist for the Prix Mustaqbal. Garden of a Soul is her first solo show.
This show runs from 29th of January - 27th of Febuary 2026.
