Emma Thompson, Aloe Arboretum in Blue, Intaglio and Monoprint, 59.4 x 42cm, Ed 1 of 1, Framed
In this triptych I have explored the visual and symbolic significance of the Aloe in the South African landscape. Inspired by the beauty of the Wolkberg Mountains and its extraordinary flora, I keep coming back to magnificence of these surroundings as inspiration for my printmaking. The aloe speaks to me about resilience- in particular the resilience of the people of our country. Aloes have been long valued for their medicinal properties, hardiness and is even known as “plants of immortality”.
In this triptych I have attempted to convey the beauty of their distinctive structures while celebrating their message of hope.
