Having traveled extensively through the Free State and the Karoo, I am awe struck by the vast spaces and how quickly the colours can change depending on the time of day and the weather. In a single journey the landscape can change from being hot, sunny semi-desert, to mountainous, to a bout of cold rain. At times, the only confirmation that there are farmhouses somewhere, are the telephone poles that connect them through wires.
Using monotype and pencil means I can work sensitively with a landscape that is drenched in light.
