Lamentation reimagines Botticelli’s iconic composition within an African cosmological framework. This shift reflects a reckoning with colonial disruption: the imposition of Christianity fractured traditional epistemologies, yet traces endure through ritual, memory, and embodied knowledge. It explores the tension of holding multiple, often conflicting, belief systems and invites reflection on how cultural, spiritual, and historical fragments are carried, reconciled, and reassembled in the making of the postcolonial self.
