"Nostalgia and Place" explores the complex relationship between memory, identity, and the spaces we inhabit, set against the backdrop of South Africa's rich heritage. The exhibition delves into how collective memory, nostalgia, and the drive for newness shape our understanding of place and belonging.

Francois Pietersen challenges traditional masculinity through delicate pressed flowers,reflecting on the tension between past and present. Laura de Harde critiques colonial narratives embedded in everyday objects, prompting a re-evaluation of history’s impact on identity. Levy Pooe captures black life’s nuances, addressing memory, displacement, and the reconstruction of community. Lindokuhle Tshabalala reimagines people of colour with strength and pride, challenging dominant narratives. Masindi Mbolekwa explores the spiritual connection to land and home, emphasizing the role of familiar spaces in grounding identity. Masonwabe Ntloko reflects on the resilience of African heritage amidst cultural erosion, while Matthew Blackburn evokes nostalgia through still life, celebrating South Africa’s diverse beauty. N'lamwai Chithambo emphasizes the significance of every life within the broader tapestry of cultural memory, reminding us of the individual legacies that shape our collective heritage.

"Nostalgia and Place" invites viewers to reflect on the interplay between longing for the past and embracing the present, highlighting how memory and place continue to shape our identities in contemporary South Africa. 

The physical exhibition runs for 5th September to 5th October 2024.
