Christopher Moller Gallery | Transcending Boundaries

Christopher Moller Gallery presents A GROUP EXHIBITION IN COLLABORATION WITH HEAT WINTER FESTIVAL.

"Transcending Boundaries" will showcase the exceptional talents of nine remarkable artists from diverse corners of the Pan-African continent. Each artist delves deep into profound aspects of value systems, inviting viewers to contemplate and engage with these universal themes. In a world overshadowed by identity politics and a lack of open dialogue, the featured artist’s work catalyses meaningful debates and discussions on universally relevant topics.

Featured artists include Ablade Glover, Tony Gum, Azuka Muoh, Olamide Ogunade, Khaya Sineyile, Lionel Mbayiwa, Sizwe Sama, Nessi Penman and Annamieke Engelbrecht. With a focus on the human condition, the exhibition aims to address global issues that transcend social barriers and cultural barriers. Emotions, such as joy, surprise, sadness, fear, disgust, and contempt, are universal in nature. In a world where the loudest voices prevail, we often shy away from engaging with one another through identity politics, perpetuating an "us versus them" mentality.

The exhibition serves as a powerful reminder to look past superficial disparities and acknowledge the intrinsic similarities that connect us as individuals. It emphasizes that regardless of our varied upbringings and cultural backgrounds, we are all united by a fundamental thread of humanity. It highlights the universal concepts of good versus evil that shape our identities, transcending the boundaries of our personal narratives. By recognizing these shared values, we gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and others, fostering empathy and promoting a more harmonious society.

This show runs from 11 July - 15 August 2024.
